What We Teach

Our Programs

ABSS teaches and trains students across four disciplines — Music, Theatre, Film Making and Fine Arts — open to all sections of society without discrimination.

There is something deeply human about music, but deeply cultural too — for, like languages, there are many forms of it. Indian classical music is ageless and ethereal, with the ability to soothe listeners of all ages. ABSS has made it a mission to bring these sounds to a global audience by combining the traditional with the modern.

Music remains fundamental to the lives of Indians today as a source of religious inspiration, cultural expression and entertainment. The basic objective of ABSS has always been to revive the prestige of the art of music — vocal, instrumental and dance — and to organize systematic training in India while reaching people at a larger scale.

Genres We Teach

Music Therapy

Music has a large impact on people. In an era where emotional conflict, anxiety and depression are increasingly common, ABSS recognizes music as a source of solace. Music therapy uses both listening to and making music to promote healing and enhance quality of life — it can be pleasant and productive, though it is not a complete treatment for any illness.

Instruments

Indian history has produced some of the world's most distinctive musical instruments. ABSS takes the learning and acquirement of instrumental skill seriously. Instruments most commonly used in Hindustani classical music include the sitar, sarod, tambura, shehnai, sarangi and tabla, while Carnatic classical music commonly uses the veena, mridangam, kanjira and violin — alongside instruments such as the bamboo flute (murli), harmonium and jaltarang.
